Temple City, Los Angeles County
Walter P. Temple, heir to a pioneer ranching family who struck oil on his own land, founded the Town of Temple in 1923 and paid to bring the electric railway to it. The name became Temple City a few years later, and the community incorporated in 1960. It took the slogan Home of Camellias in 1944 and has held a Camellia Festival, with a parade, nearly every winter since.
